Cognitive Impairment Counseling Services

Dr. Mitolo provides individual, couple or family counseling specifically for patients who have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment or Dementia. The purpose of this counseling is to help the person with a memory disorder to understand and accept their impairment(s) and to develop strategies to compensate for and to manage the challenges created by a memory issue. Dr. Mitolo also provides counseling and education for family members (with or without the patient present) to assist them in understanding and coping with the changes they are experiencing with their loved one. These sessions often provide a confidential space where caregivers can express their challenges and concerns openly and without judgement.

Education and Resources/Referrals

Dr. Mitolo also provides resources and referrals for families struggling with a cognitive disorder. These referrals may include organizations such as Alzheimer’s Orange County or other support groups. It may also include referrals for driving evaluations, physician specialists, or additional counseling services as needed. It may also include referrals to home health services, residential placement assistance, clinical trials, and many more services.

Dr. Mitolo has spent more than 20 years educating herself and her clients on memory impairment and particularly Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, including working on pharmaceutical trials for new treatments for these diseases.
